I’m gearing up to shoot the pilot episode of a TV series I created about Freshmen leaving home to attend college. I’m having a hard time with some tough scenes involving parents and their kids, and I thought I’d come here to see what kinds of views I get.

Here’s the deal: Your 17 year-old daughter is on the cheerleader squad, and her high school’s team just won Homecoming. She’s sitting on the tailgate of a decorated pickup carrying the squad, and another pickup behind it is carrying the football team. They start a victory crawl past the bleachers, celebrating their win, when the truck carrying the cheerleaders stops suddenly. The other truck rear ends it, pinning your daughter’s legs between the tailgate and the grill of the other truck.

The damage is severe enough that doctors must amputate both her legs. When she wakes up, she doesn’t know yet.

So 6 months ago I strained my Medial Collateral Ligaments (MCL) and the doctors said if it was any worse I would have needed pins put in. Well now I can run and jump, but not much, after a while it hurts like hell. I’m going into my sophomore year in high school next month and I’d like to play soccer this year or next year.

Mostly, I need the pain to stop. I haven’t done anything today and for the past 16 hours the inside of my knee, my lower shin above my ankle, and my ankle have been hurting whenever I moved my leg.

What kind of surgery could I have done? How much would it cost? Most importantly, how would it affect my school work? How would most schools handle this? How long after surgery would it be before I could go back to school?

Also, would I be able to play any sports after surgery? If so, how long would I need to recover prior to playing sports?

Thanks to any of you people out there who help me with this, it means a lot to me.

Well just to shorten the story….It was a very nice day outside and I had a trail ride planned with two other friends – One adult, one 13 yr old. The horses were behaving very well for the first part of the ride but then the first horse in line got spooked by a guinea hen which sent my horse (in the back of the line) galloping back for the barn. I had kicked out my stirrups just for the safety of not being dragged. There were three very steep and rocky hills I would be going down so I basically just slid myself off my saddle and I fell into some soft dirt,,,near some rocks,,,and I think that’s what broke my femer. So they the emts had to take a mule (like the golf cart kind) out to get me because I was about a mile out.

I was transported about 20 mins away to a hospital. The doctors put a transportation splint on my leg and took x rays. Then I was transported about an hour and fifteen mins away to a different hospital that could do surgery on my leg…my splint was changed there and the next day I had surgery – have a plate and 7 pins in my femer (thats what I broke).

So what horse related things could I do when I can walk better on crutches? Theres a dover saddlery near me but it has 4 levels and the stair cases are pretty long. I don’t think I should be near horses on crutches that much just because I can’t move around too fast on them. So any ideas?

The injury occurred in october of 2008, I was playing football and then i got tackled and landed on my wrist. It got swollen up and I couldn’t move it all without pain. I thought it was just a sprained wrist so i didn’t go to the doctors until 2 months later in december the doctor told me that its fractured and i will have to do surgery on it and put pins in my wrist. The doctor also says that it wont heal on its own but other people tell me that it will. now in febuary 2009 the swelling has gone away but when i bring my wrist back all the way it hurts Ive also been weightlifting everyday since november 2008 with my fractured arm and i don’t have any major pain while working out. the only thing that hurts is push ups and bench press and i don’t do those any more. So in your opinion should i go with the surgery or try and wait it out? Im 16 yeas old by the way

well i went over on it playing football and never went to the doctors for six weeks when i did she said it was a bad sprin and there wasnt much she could do … you know the normal, well two years down the road im still having problems, the ankle bone on inner and outside of my foot are bigger than the other foot and when i sit crossed legged or legs behind me it goes numb and i get pins and needles, it also swells and looks a little discoloured when held down for a long while, its more of a discomfort than a pain.

could this have been a break and if so what would they do about it know if i went to the doctors ( which i shall when i get time). would they rebrake it? or has it just healed that way now? could it be possible it was just bad ligament damage and the doctor was right? Docs sometimes get it wrong and i am a little worried. it doesnt stop me from doing sports or anything though.

Ok so i’m 16 and i am chubby i’m 135 pounds and I started to eat healthy and excersice and i managed to lose 6 pounds but recently i hurt my back so i can Barley do any kind of excersice and i am starting to gain weight because I get soo frustrated so I sit and start eating,I mean i know people are gonna say"it’s ok you don’t have to worry about your weight"But i actually am sort of overweight and I need to get in shape so I can be a faster runner,so Im not tryna lose weight to "look good" as most teen girl think im doing it so i can last longer when I’m playing soccer or basketball because i really do enjoy those sports and i don’t really care what the media has to say.but anyway what are some tips do you suggest.I went to the doctors 3 times and went to a physiothearapist like 4 times but I don’t feel any better and patches don’t work on my back .and iforgot to mention the pain gets worst by the day and it keeps spreading so i have no idea whats wrong with me!!!!

Hello. My name is Chelse and I’m 15 years old. I’m African American with average/light brown skin and just two days ago I noticed a light patch on the bridge of my nose. Now I’m saying light for a reason so you don’t think that’s just a straight white or anything. It’s nothing like Michael Jackson and I don’t mean that in any offense way (please, I don’t want to hear any ignorant comments about that poor man). It’s not really perfecting round but it’s probably the size of a dime. I’m sure I’m overly vain (as any teenager) and concerned, but it’s really worrying me. On that same side of the face, there’s a really tiny patch (much closer to my skin color) that’s been there for a few weeks. I honestly didn’t really think anything of it since it’s not noticeable. Here are some factors I could think of that may help you give me better advice:

1. Sun. About a month ago, the soccer season ended. Of course, the season was maybe two months long. We had practice everyday. But it was actually rainy and overcast quite often. Don’t get me wrong though, there were some really hot, sunny games as well. I wasn’t wearing sunscreen because I didn’t really think I needed it. I’m quite active and do a lot in the summer. I’ve always been that way.

2. Skin disease. About a year and a half – two years ago I had pityriasis rosea. Now that I’m thinking back it was really severe and lasted much longer than the doctors imagined. Eventually, it did finally go away. It was mostly on my torso with some on my legs and arms. It did reach my neck but never higher than that. After that, my life went on as a normal child with normal skin and all that fun. I really doubt that this is relevant in anyway.

3. Acne. I’ve got regular acne. Trust me, nothing too special. I started using Noxzema about a month ago. Honestly, I don’t think it’s working but I never gave up on it. The patch just showed up days ago and I’ve been using Noxzema for a little minute, ya’know. My mom really doesn’t think that’s relevant either.

If I use %1 Hydrocortisone, do you think the patch will disappear?
I truly apologize for such a long question. Thanks in advance for all your help!

about 2 months ago at night some friends and i used some illegal drugs (cannabis) and i was riding on the back of a golf cart (with 4 seats, 2 on the back and they had those railings that go along the sides and the corners and stoped in the middle so you get in and out.) well im riding on the back standing up holding on to the bars. we were all in a different mindset because of the drugs. but we rode up the street a little and hanged u-turn, started down to a circle culdasac which is downhill a little, well were flying down there pretty fast the driver slams on brakes and turns sharp to the right on a dime i fly my left leg hangs over bar with my foot pinned under the seat and i fall over and like hang after my head smacks the asphalt going about 20mph i dont get knocked out, i get to my feet i feel dazed and light-headed no blood or anything but my neck and back of head ache bad. when i get home in the middle of the night i have my mom drive me to the ER i get a cat scan and temp neck brace.doctors said everything is fine til this day my neck hurts but im worried somthing is still wrong .and now i have been going to the chiropractor twice a week since . is there anything the could have overlooked or is there anything else i should be worried about even though it was 2 months ago? please let me know……thanks

Ok well I wanted to take my school dress up so I had all these sewing pins in it so I could see how much I would take it up. Silly me, I left my dress on the ground. I stepped on a pin. But the weird thing was, I didn’t know if it went in or came out. I didn’t see anything at all. Strange hey. So at school I was complaining and not doing sport because I was in so much pain and kept telling mum and she said it’ll be ok. 4 months later, We had soccer at school. I had to do it because I had never really done sport because of my foot. So I kicked the ball with the inner part of my foot… OWW. It hurt like hell! So I told the teacher. I didn’t do it. Mum took me to the doctor the next week. Ahh. The doctor said to get and X-ray. It showed that I had half a sewing pin that had snapped off is stuck in my heel. I was crying. Mum was laughing so hard and I was soooo angry with her. Well not for long because she bought me a phone! Yay. Couple of weeks later I got it removed. Not to mention I have a phobia of needles So I had a tube in my hand. Ouch. I woke up after the op and I was like where am I? Then all these doctors were looking at me My foot was numb all night and I missed Neighbors. Nooooooo! haha. I got crutches. And I had stitches and not long ago we took them out. Dont really know why. Mum told me to. Hurt like hell. I would not let anybody do it or touch it. After very hard work, especially the last one, I got them all out. Not long ago My foot got all swollen and infected-ish. It went down though. Dont know if its ok or not now. Lol. Doing sport now. Nooo. Lol. Have any of you had something similar?
